This is a picture of my home following the 9.2 earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska.
We were in the house at the start of the quake until the bookcase and TV fell over. By the time we got outside, it was shaking so hard, it was physically impossible to stand up.
As I was flopping around on the ground, the Corvair you see above to the right from the house, was bouncing right by my head. The ground started breaking up into deep crevasses and the ground seemed to be rolling and moving.
I took 2 steps away from the house and turned around to look at the house and it was gone. ( That section had slid off the bluff into Turnagain Arm.)
We ran inland as the ground continued to breakup and ended up on an "island" that somewhat held together. All around were chasms 150; - 250' deep.
The reason I am telling you this, You can't know one day to the next how, where, or with whom, you will be living.
We had no emergency supplies and had to rely on others for food, housing, clothing, etc. for over 3 months. It was almost 9 months until we were in an Apartment and
almost 1.5 years to be in a house again.
